Itinerary

Day 1Pick up from Kigali and transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Amity Safaris’ driver-tour guide will pick you up either at Kigali International Airport or at the hotel of your stay, brief you about the entire safari and then proceed to Volcanoes national park in northern part of Rwanda where mountain gorilla trekking will take place. This road trip of about 2 hours’ drive to the home of mountain Gorillas will go through rolling hills that will surely make you enjoy and appreciate Rwanda’s very unique appealing landscape.

You will reach your booked lodge in the evening, check in for dinner and overnight stay as you prepare for the next day.

Day 2Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park and Transfer to Lake Kivu (Gisenyi Area)

At 07:00 am after early morning breakfast at the lodge, move to the Park Headquarters for briefing by park officials about rules and regulations of Gorilla trekking. After briefing you will start your trek led by game rangers through the thick rain forest lasting for about 1 to 6 hours depending on movements of Gorillas inside the forest. When these gentle giants are encountered, you will spend one hour in a close vicinity taking as many photos as you can and observing their human like daily interactions.

Connect back to the starting point to meet your driver who will lead you for Lunch at the Lodge and there after drive you to Lake Kivu Gisenyi resort town for another breath taking moment. Upon arrival in the afternoon, you will enjoy relaxing at beaches, swimming, canoeing, or take a boat cruise to explore many islands of Lake Kivu and its scenic views. At the end of your enjoyment, connect to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3Transfer from Lake Kivu to Nyungwe Forest National Park

After breakfast, check out of the lodge and embark on the road trip of about 6 to 7 hours scenic drive to Nyungwe forest national park a home to 12 primate species for Chimpanzee trekking. The journey takes you via the Congo-Nile divide trail with scenic views reaching your booked lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight stay.

Lodge: Mantis Kivu Marina Bay Hotel, Maravilla Kivu Resort or any other equivalent depending on availability.

Day 4Chimpanzee Trekking and Canopy Walk In Nyungwe Forest National Park

After breakfast, you will head to the park for a briefing prior to Chimpanzee tracking that will begin at 07:30 am with a company of ranger guides into the forest in search for chimpanzees. Other likely encounters of primates’ species include blue monkey, L’hoest monkey, owl-faced monkeys, red tailed monkeys, crowned monkey, Velvet monkeys and Rwenzori Colobus.

Return to the Lodge for lunch and in afternoon go for an exhilarating canopy walk experience of about 50-60 meters above the ground and the highest East Africa’s forest bridge.

Day 5Transfer back from Nyungwe Forest National Park to Kigali

After breakfast, your driver tour guide will pick you and drive back to Kigali via Butare where you will have en route stopover to visit Rwanda ethnographic museum to explore country’s cultural and historical heritage.

The drive will continue to Kigali for a city tour including a visit to Kigali Genocide memorial site and artisan shops to buy souvenirs. After this amazing and memorable city tour you will have lunch and there after transfer to the airport for a return flight or at the hotel of your stay in Kigali.
