Itinerary

Day 1Transfer from Kigali, Rwanda to Bwindi National Park, Uganda

Amity Safaris’ driver-tour guide will pick you up either at Kigali International Airport or down town Kigali, brief you about the entire trip, and then proceed for Kigali city tour and a visit to Kigali Genocide memorial. While at this memorial site, you will be given more information on how over 250,000 victims of the 1994 Rwanda genocide were rudely murdered and you pay tribute to the resting souls.

After the visit to the genocide memorial, you will have a lunch break, and thereafter proceed with a 4-5 hours drive to Bwindi National Park in Uganda.

The drive will go through Katuna or Chanika border post to southwestern Uganda and ascend to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park through a stunning mountainous landscape arriving in the evening. Upon arrival, you will check in your reserved lodge, have dinner, and overnight stay awaiting an exciting gorilla trek the following day.

Meal plan: Lunch and dinner

Lodge: Rushaga Gorilla Lodge, Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge, Lake Mulehe Safari Lodge or Lake Mulehe Gorilla Lodge depending on availability

Day 2Gorilla trekking in Bwindi National Park and transfer back to Kigali, Rwanda

Today is the main event of this safari and will commence with an early morning breakfast and then proceed with your packed lunch box at Bwindi National Park headquarters for a briefing by game rangers about mountain Gorilla trekking rules and regulations. After briefing you will be put in a group of 8 members and be a signed with a gorilla family to trek through the thick rainforest vegetation lasting for about 2 to 6 hours depending on how far or close the Gorillas will be found.

Once these human-like exciting creatures “Mountain gorillas” are spotted in their natural habitat, you will be allowed 1 hour observing them, taking photos and learning more about their routine human-like interactions an adventurous moment worth your input. After trekking, you will be given a certificate of participation in mountain gorilla trekking, return to the lodge to check out and head back to Kigali, Rwanda for a return flight or at the hotel of your stay.

Note that sometimes gorilla trekking may take longer than 5 hours and we therefore advise not to book a return flight out of Kigali that departs before 10:00 pm Kigali time in the evening of Day 2

Meal plan: Breakfast and Lunch

Lodge: No accommodation (End of safari)
